On February 18, 2014 Mountain View PD detectives arrested suspect Cesar Urieta, a 31 year-old male out of Mountain View, for 288.2(a) of the Penal Code (Cause a Minor to Distribute Harmful Material) and 288.3(a) of the Penal Code (Contact a Minor with Intent to Commit Sex Offenses).

Suspect Urieta has been renting a room from a family in Mountain View for the past few years during which time he established a relationship with the family’s juvenile son. Recently, family members came across inappropriate messages and an image that caused them great concern. Not knowing how to proceed, they contacted a counselor with a local organization to report the incident. Mountain View PD, along with the Department of Family Services, made contact with the family on the afternoon of the 18th. Through the course of interviews Suspect Urieta was subsequently arrested and booked into San Jose’s Main Jail without incident.

Mountain View PD was recently interviewed by KPIX 5 regarding another case involving an adult male suspect and a juvenile male. Juvenile victims are often courted by adult suspects with gifts, money and other material items to establish a connection and trust. “If you ever come across any questionable material,” says Det. Nanez, “and you believe the child may be the victim of a sexual predator, call us. Do not wait. It is our duty as adults, caretakers and responsible individuals to protect children from harm.”

Detectives are looking for other victims the suspect may have been in contact with. If you have any information about suspect Urieta, please contact us at 650-903-6344 and reference case number 14-0939.
