On 6/21/13 at approximately 5:53 AM, MVPD units were dispatched to the 1200 block of Dale Avenue on the report of a suspect who had stolen a Trek bicycle. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male between the ages of 35-40 years wearing a gray hoodie and dark pants and was seen by the witness riding the stolen bicycle. The witness then followed the suspect to an apartment complex located on the 700 block of Continental Circle.
With the assistance of two Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officers – one of which was a K9 officer — MVPD units set-up a perimeter to search for the suspect. Officers were able to locate the suspect, later identified at Julian Ojeda, hiding in the underground parking lot of the apartment complex. Ojeda admitted to officers that he stole the bicycle and had also smoked methamphetamine. Ojeda was booked into the San Jose Main Jail for grand theft, as well as being under the influence of a controlled substance, without incident.
Thanks to alert Mountain View community members who contacted the police, we were able to apprehend the suspect and recover the stolen Trek bicycle. “An alert and engaged community enhances our ability to catch thieves in the act,” says Sgt. Jaeger of MVPD. “This is a great example of observant community members immediately reporting suspicious behavior resulting in an arrest and recovery of stolen property.”
We continue to urge the Mountain View community to always “See Something, Say Something.” Please report any suspicious individuals and/or activity by calling 9-1-1 or our non-emergency line at 650-903-6395.
