Parolee Arrested With Loaded Firearm

Thanks to an alert and proactive Mountain View witness, we received a call on October 7, 2013 at approximately 10:00AM about a subject thought to be siphoning gas from vehicles in the area of Ortega Avenue and Mora Drive. Officers DeFiore and Doerres responded to the area and came across a subject matching the description of the suspicious person: a Hispanic male, 5’8″ with black closely shaved hair seen carrying a gas can with a hose.

Upon seeing the officers, the subject began to walk away from them and then dropped the gas can fleeing on-foot towards a fence, which he proceeded to jump over. Officer Doerres was able to intercept the subject later identified as Suspect Raymond Sultani out of Union City and on CDC Parole. A records check of Suspect Sultani further revealed he had an outstanding felony warrant for $20,000 out of Placer County Superior Court for various narcotic violations.

During the course of their investigation, officers learned that another witness reported seeing Suspect Sultani with a firearm. MVPD officers searched the area and were able to locate a loaded .22 caliber pistol. Suspect Sultani’s vehicle was also found down the street and searched, which uncovered methamphetamine and ammunition matching those found in the loaded firearm.

Suspect Sultani was booked into the San Jose Mail Jail without incident on several charges that included: Felon in Possession of a Gun, Possession of Methamphetamine and his outstanding warrant.

“This arrest illustrates how a seemingly innocuous incident led to much more than an individual siphoning gas,” says Sgt. Beninger. “We’re fortunate this one ended safely, without incident and resulted in the removal of another firearm off our streets.”
