Possible Stolen Items From Package Theft Found During Arrest

On Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at around 4:34am, an officer stopped a bicycle for a vehicle code violation on the 1700 block of Rock Street. The bicyclist, who initially identified himself as “Fabian Gutierrez,” was found to actually be Javier Ortega, a 36 year-old Hispanic male out of Mountain View. A records check found that Ortega has a $25,000 warrant for his arrest out of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

A subsequent search of Ortega’s backpack revealed a package addressed to a resident in Palo Alto. With the assistance of Palo Alto Police Department (PAPD), this resident was contacted and informed officers they were expecting a delivery that failed to arrive. Additionally, four pieces of individually packaged clothing were located in Ortega’s backpack (pictured below), but were not identified as belonging to the Palo Alto resident.

If you recognize any of the items listed here, please contact Det. Andrew Wong at 650-903-6989 and reference case number 15-3488. IMG_3127 IMG_3128 IMG_3129 IMG_3130

We’ve had packages disappearing off our porch for the last 3 months… probably this jerk. None of these items but someone definitely took them. One day in particular we had 4 packages arrive from 3 different carriers, all missing when we got home. Good catch.
