A 25-year-old woman was arrested after she sped away from Mountain View police during a traffic stop early Thursday morning.
Around 2:15 a.m., we stopped a black Honda Accord that was seen speeding and driving recklessly near northbound Highway 101 and Highway 85. The car, driven by Tiffany Smith, immediately pulled over. As our officer began trying to talk to Smith, she abruptly sped away on northbound Highway 101.
We did not chase after her due to safety concerns, but officers in the area immediately began looking for the Accord, which was last seen near the area of San Antonio Road and Highway 101.
Just minutes later, two of our officers spotted the car behind a commercial building along Terminal Avenue, and again, Smith sped away. She continued to drive to the end of Terminal Avenue, drove through a fence and then collided with a tree, knocking it down. Smith went over an embankment and her car flipped into the creek.
Smith sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. She will be booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail once she is released from the hospital on the following charges: fleeing from a police officer, speeding, obstructing a police officer and driving without a license.
