Google Earth car suffers minor damage in fire incident

We’ve been getting a lot of inquiries about an incident involving a Google Earth car last night, so we wanted to share some information regarding the incident.

Around 10:52 pm, Mountain View firefighters, along with our officers, were called to the 1500 block of Salado Drive for reports of a fire.

When we got there, we noticed that a small section of ground, and a small section of a building, had been singed by a fire. A Google Earth demo car, parked in front of the building, had minor superficial damage.

Two incendiary devices were found at the scene and they have been sent to a lab for testing. This is still an active investigation and at this time, we unfortunately can’t release anything further. But, we will update you when we know more.

For fire-related questions, please contact MVFD PIO Lynn Brown at 650-740-6456. For police-related questions, please contact MVPD PIO Katie Nelson at 650-903-6360.
