Inert WWII-era device found on Hope Street

Around 8:40 am, our officers responded to the 200 block of Hope Street for reports of a suspicious device located inside an abandoned building.

When we arrived, we evacuated nearby buildings and called out the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad to investigate the device. Sheriffs deputies on the bomb squad determined that the device, a World War II-era rocket-power grenade, or RPG, was “inert,” meaning it was not active or “not live.”

The device was removed from the building and taken to our department, where it will be destroyed. Hope Street was reopened at 10:20 am.

No one was hurt and it was “business as usual” shortly after the street was reopened.
