MVPD arrests man in connection with July stabbing

After months of investigation, MVPD detectives arrested a man Thursday in connection with a gang-related stabbing that happened over the Fourth of July weekend.

Just before 10 pm on July 2, Mountain View officers responded to Rengstorff Park, located at 201 South Rengstorff Ave., after we received a report that a stabbing had just occurred. When we arrived, we found a juvenile male suffering from stab wounds.

The victim, who was seriously wounded, was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Earlier this week, Sunnyvale resident Daniel Martinez, 19, was identified as a suspect in the stabbing. Martinez was subsequently arrested Thursday by Mountain View and Sunnyvale detectives. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and violating his parole.

We want to thank Sunnyvale DPS for their assistance. Policing is all about partnerships, and we appreciate their help on this case.
