Officers Chase Stolen Car and Apprehend Three Suspects After Brief Pursuit

On Thursday, October 27, 2016, at approximately 1:45 pm an MVPD Officer checked the license plate of a vehicle which almost collided with him while making an unsafe lane change. It turned out that the vehicle, a white Honda, had been reported stolen from San Jose earlier that morning. As the officer followed the Honda, which was occupied by 3 males, it turned quickly onto Rengstroff Ave and then into the neighborhood along Latham St, running a red light. The officer initiated a pursuit of the vehicle which ended at San Antonio Rd when the 3 occupants exited the vehicle and ran. The front passenger, 31 year old Mitchell Sharpe from San Jose, was immediately taken into custody on the median of San Antonio Rd. The other two suspects ran across San Antonio Rd and into a construction area. Officers from neighboring agencies, Palo Alto and Los Altos PD, as well as additional MVPD officers set up a perimeter and began a systematic search of the area. The other two suspects, 18 year old Robert Mejia from San Jose and a 15 year old juvenile from San Jose, were located hiding in the area and were safely taken into custody without incident.

We also wanted to take a minute to thank our law enforcement partners at the Los Altos and Palo Alto Police Departments who immediately responded to the area to help our patrol officers safely capture these suspects. Keeping communities safe involves a lot of teamwork and we greatly appreciate the relationships we have with both of these organizations.

Mitchell Sharpe, 31 years old – San Jose

Robert Mejia, 18 years old – San Jose
