On Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at 8:46am five middle school students were walking along the 700 block of Castro Street when they were approached by an Asian male, later identified as 34 year-old suspect Gil Kim. Suspect Kim offered the students bottled water, which the students declined. Suspect Kim then grabbed one of the students by their backpack, opened it and proceeded to put drinks inside. The students became frightened and called the police. When we arrived on scene, officers contacted suspect Kim inside the business located at 750 Castro Street. Suspect Kim was subsequently arrested for Penal Code 647.6 (Annoying or molesting children) and booked into San Jose Main Jail.
We would like to take this moment to give thanks to the middle schoolers who did the right thing. If you are ever unsure about a situation, do not hesitate to call us. You have a voice in your community, and we encourage you to use it like anyone else. Whether you’re in elementary school, middle school or high school, we are your police department here to serve and protect you. This situation is a reminder to us all that if you see something, you most certainly should say something. By doing so, we continue to build a safer and more connected community.
