We need your help identifying and locating any additional victims of a man recently arrested by our officers for child molestation.
On May 20, we received a report that 57-year-old Mountain View resident Mark Vandenburg, who is also a sex registrant, may have been having an affair with a relative. But, the report indicated that the relationship between Vandenburg and the relative may have begun well before the victim turned 18 years old.
We were able to get in touch with Vandenburg and the victim, and during the course of our investigation, we learned that Vandenburg had molested a female relative for several years, starting when she was a young girl. The victim is now an adult.
Vandenburg was subsequently arrested on charges of aggravated sexual assault on a child under the age of 14, multiple charges of lewd acts with a minor, continuous sexual abuse and two counts of sexual penetration with a foreign object.
He is being held without bail at the Santa Clara County Jail. This investigation is still active and ongoing, and we will release additional information as it becomes available.
Because Vandenburg worked as a truck driver for Suburban Propane, a company in San Jose, we are concerned that Vandenburg may have additional victims.
